Protein Shake

protein shakeThis recipe is perfect with Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC, 80% protein) which is creamy, tasty, light on the stomach and highly nourishing. WPC is low lactose, however Whey Protein Isolate (WPI at 90% protein) has almost no lactose and is a the premium of all powders for purity and precise nourishment.

Hulled hemp seed is the plant based powder with a good amino acid profile that’s sourced from simple filtering of pressed seed. Sold as Hemp Gold (60% protein).

Ingredients:

  • Water
  • Fruit
  • Protein Powder
  • Coconut Oil
  • Yogurt or Kefir

Extras:

  • Supplements – liquids and powders
  • Flavours – maca, cacao

Recipe:

  • 250 ml water
  • ½ to ¾ cup of ripe fruit
  • 1 or 2 dessertspoons yogurt or kefir
  • ½ cup of WPC (approximately, adjust to suit your protein requirement)
  • 1 or 2 dessert spoons melted coconut oil

Instructions:

  1. Add water and fruit to blender jug
  2. Add supplements
  3. Add protein powder, swirl to pre-mix
  4. Add yogurt or kefir
  5. Add warmed coconut oil
  6. Blend briefly

Notes:

  1. Minimal blending only – whirling blades damage amino acids (protein).
  2. Adjust water to preferred consistency.
  3. Never begin with too much oil – start with a small amount (1 tsp) and increase slowly.
  4. Warm coconut oil to full liquid and add last.
  5. Frozen fruit is good, thaw fully before adding or the coconut oil will chill and set in the shake.
  6. MCT oil may be used.
