Eight reasons I think the earth is round ..

A post here is long overdue. I thought I’d lost my voice .. astonishing global events exposed in real time by good minds with good writing skills take my time and interest. I’m doubtful I have anything to add and I’m still learning to write ..

Why this subject for a blog? As a natural medicine practitioner I find an essential factor in healing is the client’s own sense of health/wellness and their sense of self. My role is to find what’s locking them out of it and give them a vision to aim toward .. the law of attraction. So a lot of healing is mindset – the mental grasp of reality.

Which is systematically corrupted at every level and even the process of discovery is problematic in itself. As author Michael Hoffman (Secret Societies and Psychological Warfare) said, the process of exploring the truth is a satanic initiation, the keepers of dark secrets know some of us will find them so the trail of clues weaves through dark places. Falsehoods are implicit in everything, yet as I mentioned above, insight and knowledge are expanding before us, we have no choice but to explore widely and use discretion (hopefully wisdom) to put it all into perspective.

The ‘conspiracies’ are now widely discussed, in fact so widely that they’re cohering into a Universal Theory of Everything. Occam’s Razor applies – “the truth will be the simplest answer that fits the facts”. That is, the more we get across the information the clearer we see coherent facts and distinguish the red herrings serving agendas. I find these things fascinating but many others are challenged, triggered, by them. Yet it’s only information, the worst thing that can happen is that we have to change our minds. I think its necessary mental training .. a topic as apparently irrelevant as this one is either of passing interest or an attitude test!

Let’s look at the flat earth discussion. I joined three Facebook groups but deleted them in disgust, it was impossible to get logical answers to basic questions. I was either regarded as a troublemaker or thrown a bunch of irrelevant mathematical diagrams.

Here’s the summary of my observations ..

1. Flat earthers use a time-delay photograph of stars circling the northern Pole Star as proof of the center of the earth, with the stars circling anticlockwise around it (as they say the sun and moon do also). So according to their theory the southern stars viewed from the southern hemisphere should sweep across the sky from horizon to horizon, not rotate around a fixed point as they do.

I’m in Australia, the Southern Cross rotates clockwise around the south celestial pole, with the sunset starting point shifting around that circle through the year as all the constellations do. Exactly as it should be seen to do on a rotating globe.

I’ve watched it since childhood and used it at night as a compass point when out all night on a tractor ploughing big paddocks.

2. If the earth was flat the meridians would be diverging radius lines like spokes on a bicycle wheel and the distance between them would be larger in southern continents than at the equator. However the distance between meridians in Australia is less than at the Equator, as they should be on a globe as meridians converge toward the south pole.

3. At sunset the shadows on a tall building rise up the building as the sun goes down. In the flat earth model the shadows would simply fade as the sun and sunlight receded. According to flat earthers the sun “sets” because it moves away i.e. it should appear to recede in size at sunset.

4. The line of site from the equator to the celestial pole or other heavenly body elevates by 1 degree for each degree we move away from a line of latitude or longitude, as has been relied upon for centuries by seafarers using a sextant, demonstrating a spherical world.

5. In “the land of the midnight sun”, the high latitudes above the polar circle, the summer sun is low on the horizon and goes right around in a circle, to reach the starting point 24 hours later, as has been observed by polar explorers since forever. This is observed in the Antarctic bases also. By chance I recently met a fellow who’d worked in Antarctica through a summer and he agreed this was so.

6. When the sun is over the Sahara in north Africa there is daylight over the north and south American continents, all the way across Eurasia and China. 95% of humanity. This is only explained by the globe earth.

7. Flat earth advocates point out that the horizon always appears to be at eye level regardless of our altitude. I regard this as a factor of our perspective and the great size of the planet.

An airplane must aim toward the horizon to maintain a steady altitude. The instrument panel has an artificial horizon which uses gravity as a reference for the vertical plane, this could be interpreted as verifying the horizon is vastly distant and on a level. But long distance flights aiming toward the horizon on a flat earth would be losing height, not maintaining height as they do on a round earth.

8. If a large field is laser leveled for agricultural irrigation without any gradient the irrigation water will pool toward the center. This is congruent with a long straight line being tangential to the curve of a globular earth with the ends of that line being further from the center of the globe, causing the water to move inward. That is why laser levelled fields are sloped with a fall of about 1cm per 100 m on all sides.

Flat earth advocates claim we are being lied to about everything and ask why we’d be told the truth about the shape of the earth. No doubt we’re being lied to on an industrial scale and that may well include the flat earth distraction.

Even so, there are many mysteries and unanswered questions.

For the flat earth, we have the tome of Admiral Byrd, biblical references to the firmament, long lines of sight to distant objects.
